More Men in Kundalini Yoga?
This is just a personal observation, based on the places I’ve done yoga at…I’ve noticed that here in Los Angeles, more men go to kundalini yoga classes. And not just any ole men – a lot of these guys are extremely good-looking, tall men. (Here in LA, there are tons of short guys for some reason…not that there’s anything wrong with short men, but when you are 5’8″ like I am, it can be a bit disconcerting to walk onto a dance floor and tower above everyone in the room.)
I like having men in yoga class. And no, it’s not about “hooking up” or anything like that. I like being around male energy. Too much female energy is stifling to me. And too much female energy in yoga can get twisted into yoga becoming about female vanity – something that’s all about having the perfect bod in the latest designer yoga clothes, rather than being about the yoga.
So more men in yoga, please. You are always welcome!

Thank you. Speaking as a man who attends an average of three yoga classes a week (though not kundalini and not in LA, though I am tall, and can only hope I fit the description of “extremely good looking”), usually surrounded by women, I think that: a) that’s just fine, b) it’s kind of interesting that in the past decade yoga has come to be seen almost exclusively as a “women’s thing” when it really hasn’t been for the past couple thousand years, and c) I provide a valuable service by bringing in the low end on the OM’s.
I agree that yoga has for some reason become a “woman’s thing” and I hope that changes.
I love hearing those bass notes when the men are chanting OM…it’s divine!
there are lot of good-looking men in anusara classes, too… and when the class has to do inversions and arm balances, one can’t help notice all those ripped muscles
Thank god I’m an “ole men” and not an ‘old man!’…right Joni….:)
This is funny. I always appreciate tips on where the good looking guys are. I live in SF and have found there to be a lot of good looking yoga-goers (men and women) at a 90min Flow Yoga class I go to at Yoga Studio here in the city. It’s a tough class (and gets you really sweaty) so I think guys consider it a good workout.
