Obama Yoga?

Let me first state outright that I am one of those “embittered” Hillary Clinton supporters who will not be voting for Barack Obama in the fall. It’s not just about Hillary or the fixed Democratic primary, by the way…as an intuitive, I get real bad energy from Obama. I liked him at first, before I took a closer look, but now he makes my skin crawl.

So I just don’t get how new age people fall for the hype that Obama is this messianic messenger from the light. I think he’s a cynical, calculating, power-hungry Chicago politician who parrots progressive talking points or whatever else is the flavor of the moment to get ahead. (Obama’s dramatic flip-flop on FISA is proof of this.)

Yet, here in California, it seems, the leftist new age has embraced Obama as the Second Coming of Krishna. Fortunately, most yoga classes I have been to have been pretty neutral for the most part, though they sometimes imply that perhaps the Democrat would be a better president, they almost never say so outright.

Not so for one Boulder, Colorado yoga studio: They have gone so far as to add Obama yoga classes to their schedule. Called “OmBama Yoga,” these classes are described as follows:

OMbama Yoga classes! Enjoy these radically inspiring all level yoga classes of incredible, heartfelt practices for change! Join us for an eclectic and joyful practice as we celebrate the upcoming election and the opportunity of participating in the political process with one another and invoking the spirit of Obama’s own phrase, YES WE CAN! The instructors who will be leading these practices will be sharing their unique styles and collaborating with one another to inspire and serve and support you in this election year!

Can I just say: OMmy??!!! This is a bit much.

I personally would like to see politics kept out of yoga. As I’ve admitted above, I am not a fan of Obama. But even if I was, I just don’t think yoga is the place for it. You can’t assume everyone (even a fellow progressive) likes your particular candidate. I think yoga should be inclusive, and open its arms to people of all beliefs and political stripes. I’d be more open to an OmBama Yoga class if there was a similar OmMcCain Yoga class to balance it out.

You’d think that with a woman running for president, someone would have come up with Hillary Yoga, but it seems that a lot of women prefer to go for the young good-looking man over the “reminds me of mom” older woman when it comes to politics. Sigh.

Perhaps this liberal yoga studio has found their OmBama class to be popular, but is it also chasing away other potential yoga participants? I will tell you that I have stopped going to the Agape International Spiritual Center here in Culver City until the election is over. I don’t want to go for spiritual upliftment just to get hit with random Obama commercials during the service.

Early in the primaries, when Hillary and Obama were fairly even, I got earfuls of hateful spew from a few young women - yes, women - in line at Agape, who were angry that Hillary was so presumptuous to want to be president. Then I entered into the sanctuary only to be bombarded with Obama advertisements from the guy reading the announcements. I had enough and have not gone back since.

I know Obama quickly became the progressive darling this year, but I think it’s wrong to assume that everyone who is into yoga and spiritual things is automatically an Obama convert. Personally, I think Obama is dangerous due to the cult-like effect he has on followers, and for precisely the reason that he has “inspired” his own yoga class, I’m steering clear of Obama brainwashing in my yoga and spiritual life.

  1. While I agree that Obama yoga is a bit much I think it is important for you to turn your attention inward and truly ask yourself if it is worth having John McCain continue the failed policies of the Bush administration. We are at a crucial crossroads here and we cannot make this election be about anything as selfish as hurt feelings because the candidate we backed did not win. That is not what America is about…
Hillary will be back, stronger than before…but for now we need to do everything in our power to ensure that there is a strong and healthy country for her when she does return.
think about it………for whatever faults you believe Obama to have…how will you feel on nov 3 if John McCain really wins and this country truly heads down a dark hole with no hope of recovery?

“how will you feel on nov 3 if John McCain really wins and this country truly heads down a dark hole with no hope of recovery?”

I’ll be relieved in John McCain wins the presidency. If you only view elections through the narrow lens of “Democrat = Good and Republican = Bad” then you are living a simplistic worldview that isn’t necessarily the real truth. A lot of people have projected good qualities onto Obama that aren’t really there. I’ve done energy readings on both Obama and McCain and there’s no doubt in my mind that McCain is actually the more evolved spirit and will be a decent president, whereas Obama will only sow more discord and problems for America. You can only look at how fractured the Democratic party is to see the effects of Obama’s energy.

Any intuitive worth their salt would see the reality under Obama’s slick presentation - but a lot of new agers aren’t that intuitive and have been bamboozled.

You can read more about my energy readings on my other blog here:

  3. I live in Central Europe and USA elections look a more misty from here. OMBama yoga sounds like something is completely wrong. One important thing is that Western yoga is most times only physical (not even energies involved); but making yoga political and thus claiming we have to *make a choice* or support someone we don’t even personally know.. this leads us away from yoga really.

  4. I am a yogi, but I am not fond of any of the candidates. This is not because I am indifferent to social issues, but I think there is not much difference between them. I wrote a song about it and you can listen to it here

I don’t expect that my opinions will be popular but you can consider them.

I guess you missed his speech about bringing America together.

I can see that it is probably pointless to continue this discussion. Your bitterness clouds your judgement. This election needs to be about hope and positive energy. I don’t know what energy you are reading but it appears to be corrupted. You might want to think long and hard about how much your ego is involved in this process.

“I guess you missed his speech about bringing America together.”

A person can give a good speech but not be a good person or candidate. Speeches don’t really mean much when it comes to actual job performance.

    “Your bitterness clouds your judgement.”

Actually, as I’ve said, I liked Obama at first, but I think he’s been showing more of his true colors as the campaign has progressed, which is why a lot of people now find him to be arrogant and egotistical.

“This election needs to be about hope and positive energy.”

I certainly found McCain’s announcement of Gov. Palin today to be filled with hope and positive energy. Is it only “positive energy” when you agree with certain issues?

“I don’t know what energy you are reading but it appears to be corrupted. You might want to think long and hard about how much your ego is involved in this process.”

Sorry, my energy readings are quite accurate, and I actually had known intuitively that McCain was going to pick Palin - a lot of people were surprised but I was not. Is it possible that your ego is tied into the idea that Obama is “the one”? I’m open to seeing that people who are from a different party and ideology than I am from (I am a registered Democrat) could possibly be positive forces as well.

I have yet to do a formal energy read on Sarah Palin, but based on what I saw today, she’s very real and sincere, a trait I do not pick up from Obama whatsoever. I suspect her overall energy will be positive, even though she does not follow the liberal or new age party line. Just because someone is Christian does not mean they are filled with bad energy. A spiritual person is a spiritual person, regardless of belief system. I disagree with her on many issues but found myself liking her immediately when I saw her speak.
