Getting Better With No Practice. Strange.

I haven’t been practicing yoga consistently at all lately (bad girl!). In the least, I was doing seated forward bend every night before going to bed almost every night for a while…I have very tight hamstrings. But I stopped that about a month ago, at least. So last night I decided to do just a [...]

Lazy, Lazy Yoga Gal

Darnit, I keep saying I am going to get back to practicing yoga daily but then something comes up…it gets too cold out…or it’s a new guy taking up my free time…or it’s that time of month…or I’m busy…and then it just seems like a huge chore to get going again.
Tomorrow. I’ll get going again [...]

Pilates Fusion at Your Neighborhood Studio

I checked out Leslie’s Pilates Fusion class at Your Neighborhood Studio today. This class incorporates mat Pilates with some yoga thrown in (lots of downward facing dog as an arm strengthener - ouch!).
Once again, this was a terrific class that no-one else showed up to - lucky for me. I have taken some Pilates classes [...]

Back to Daily Practice…

OK…attempting to go back to a routine of daily practice. Parents had come into town in mid-March, that was my excuse. Now, no more excuses. I went to lunchtime yoga at Your Neighborhood Studio today and got a good workout. Body feels good. Pledging to do more tomorrow!

Your Neighborhood Studio, Culver City, California

I was posting something to Craigslist a few days ago and found out there was a yoga studio within walking distance of my home! Actually, it’s a yoga/dance/fitness studio, and even better, it’s cheap! The fees are extremely reasonable for Los Angeles. As of this writing, $12 for an hour and a half class, and [...]

Headstand!

Hurrah! Finally, I did a headstand this evening at home without anyone spotting me. (I did have the safety of a comfy futon behind me in case I fell over.) Once you are up there, it is not so bad, except I worry about what they say about people with eye problems. I am very [...]

Ah, VHS…

Going through my old yoga videos. Found Ali MacGraw’s Yoga Mind and Body, from 1994. I was wondering why I rarely used this video, even though it gets great reviews on Amazon. I think it was just too strenuous for my chronic fatigue syndrome back then. I guess it says a lot that I was [...]

This is What Happens When You Live in Los Angeles…

I was trying out Inhale Yoga today, which is on the Oxygen television network. In the middle of a pose I glance up at the screen and see my friend David way in the back, participating as one of the class members! I called him later and apparently they recorded this years ago, and it [...]

Oscar Yoga

I was supposed to go to an Oscar party this evening, but I hadn’t seen any of the films except The Queen. After a stressful week (read: client’s checks keep bouncing), and fighting off a cold, some self-care was in order instead. So I’m doing a low-key yoga session this evening, without the TV on.

Midnight Yoga

It’s 12:30 am, and I am getting ready to do my yoga practice before bedtime. Tonight will not be a strenuous routine: mostly stretches, twists, and some back and forward bends. I have found that by practicing my forward bend each night before bed, I have made huge progress. It used to be I could [...]
