I went to the Los Angeles Convention Center yesterday for the Global Mala Project. Unfortunately, there was a terrible rainstorm, which in Los Angeles is enough to keep people from driving. (They should have done what I did, which was take the bus.) So the turnout, especially in the beginning of the day, was decent, [...]

I honestly don’t get the fascination with Bikram (generic term: Hot Yoga). We’ve been having this awful heat wave in LA, and I went to a regular yoga class on Sunday that was just steaming hot. The teacher ended up putting on the air conditioning, and we all breathed a sigh of relief. (And this [...]

Took a class at the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center last night. I guess Sivananda Yoga is not considered trendy or flashy these days, being “classical yoga” and all that, but still, I wonder why more people don’t take the classes there. With a $35/year membership, drop-in classes are only $10. This is insanely cheap for [...]

Sometimes we can get spoiled in Los Angeles, seeing as it’s the American hub of yoga. We’ve got the best yoga teachers and the best yoga studios in the country. I’ve already studied with Shiva Rea; last night I ventured bravely out to Hollywood for a Full Moon Yoga class with Gurmukh at Golden Bridge. [...]

On the recommendation of a friend, I went to a gong meditation at Golden Bridge Yoga on Friday night. I had never been to Golden Bridge before, and I’m admittedly cautious about Kundalini Yoga due to some of the controversies surrounding it.
The gong workshop was fantastic…I had always wondered what the point was of doing [...]

The Los Angeles Sivananda Yoga Center has been undergoing a remodel to install hardwood floors and create a new space up front as a small boutique/entranceway. So far, the hardwood floors are in place, and now the final touches are in progress. It looks great!
On another note…I used to be able to go to satsang [...]

I went to the Yoga Groove Night at Your Neighborhood Studio (YNS) in Culver City (Los Angeles) Saturday night. It consisted of a one-hour yoga class, one hour of getting your groove on (dancing), and a cool down/meditation.
Denise, owner of YNS, ran the yoga class…she was a little tough there on the lengthy downward [...]

I checked out Leslie’s Pilates Fusion class at Your Neighborhood Studio today. This class incorporates mat Pilates with some yoga thrown in (lots of downward facing dog as an arm strengthener - ouch!).
Once again, this was a terrific class that no-one else showed up to - lucky for me. I have taken some Pilates classes [...]

I was posting something to Craigslist a few days ago and found out there was a yoga studio within walking distance of my home! Actually, it’s a yoga/dance/fitness studio, and even better, it’s cheap! The fees are extremely reasonable for Los Angeles. As of this writing, $12 for an hour and a half class, and [...]
